Trainee Credit Controller

Glasgow - Wellpark Brewery
This vacancy is now closed

Are you working in a bar, but looking for a change of direction? We’re looking for someone with good knowledge of the drinks trade to train up as a Credit Controller at the Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow, the home of famous brands like Tennent’s lager.

This is a permanent role, and comes with a competitive salary. In addition, you’ll join our pension scheme, receive private health care, generous product allowance and be eligible for our bonus scheme. Plus you get to work for an iconic Scottish brand. What’s not to like?

So what’s involved?

Our Tennents Credit Control team work with customers (typically pubs, clubs, restaurants, etc) to make sure that their accounts are up-to-date, deal with credit queries and ensure any outstanding payments are made.

Credit controllers obviously need a combination of good financial savvy and the ability to manage transactions and financial systems, but our best Credit Controllers also have an “X Factor” that’s hard to define. It’s partly about being comfortable with a focus on collections – usually on accounts with relatively low values. It’s partly about the pace of the team – they make a LOT of calls. And it’s partly about being comfortable talking to a wide range of customers, including some that don’t have a great understanding of how credit works.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need the ability to quickly gauge the situation, and adapt your style to get a good result. It’s a fact of life that not all customers are great at settling their accounts, and it will take a combination of charm, humour and a firm approach – not unlike the skills you need behind the bar.

A comprehensive on-boarding and training programme to ensure you are equipped to succeed in this role – as well as on-going mentoring, training and further development opportunities. You’ll be joining a friendly, hardworking team that delivers great results, and you should expect to be a fully-fledged Credit Controller within a year.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to move from bar management to a more corporate environment.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience working in a bar or other licenced premises where you’ve had responsibility for stock management or financial administration.
  • Good standards of computer literacy, including Word, Excel, Outlook
  • The ability to work at pace in a high volume environment
  • Good accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt your style to different customers
  • A good sense of humour and the “unflappability” required to handle difficult conversations

Does this sound like you?

Send us a CV that demonstrates that you’ve got the skills and experience we’re looking for, and we'll come back to you asap.
