Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Advisor

This vacancy is now closed

As Scotland’s biggest drinks wholesaler, we operate 6 busy distribution depots across Scotland and the North of England. The teams at these distribution hubs service a huge range of customers, ensuring a constant flow of deliveries of beer, cider, wine, spirits and soft drinks. Those include our own famous brands like Tennent’s and Magners, but also a full range of brands from other drinks manufacturers. Essentially our goal is to provide a one stop wholesale service for bars, clubs, hotels and restaurants. If you need to stock a bar, we’ve got you covered.

We’re recruiting for a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Advisor to focus on the depot network.

The health and safety of our people is vitally important. Our depot teams are involved in lifting and moving heavy stock – so it’s essential that they have the knowledge and equipment to be able to do their jobs safely and minimise any risk to themselves and their colleagues. Our drivers and driver’s assistants spend their days out on the road, so we want to make sure they’re safe and sound behind the wheel, and when they’re delivering to customer sites.

So what’s involved?

You’ll be working with the managers and supervisors at each of our Scottish depots (Inverness, Kintore, Dundee, Cambuslang, Irvine and Dumfries) to help them with their day-to-day SHE performance and compliance. The goal is all about driving continuous improvement across the SHE agenda and building a strong Safety First culture across the depots.

You’ll review all aspects of our current SHE arrangements, ensuring that they are appropriate and compliant with our company standards, industry best practice and current Health and Safety legislation.

Expect to be involved in regular audits, external benchmarking, and SHE training. You’ll be on hand to provide advice and guidance to help resolve operational issues, including those raised by our customers.

This role will report to the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Manager at the Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow, and may also require occasional involvement in projects that impact the brewing and packaging side of the business.

What you’ll need:

  • Relevant experience delivering health & safety support/training/advice within a manufacturing or distribution environment, supported by recognised H&S qualification, e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH
  • Previous experience of managing regulatory and certification bodies expectations, including pre, during and post visit, communication and reporting (e.g. HSE, SEPA, Fire Service etc.) would be advantageous
  • Previous experience of managing risk associated with warehousing and distribution e.g. PUWER/LOLER, transport, Manual handling, would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers.
  • Ability of driving change, through positive communication, employee engagement and forward planning.
  • Ability to practically resolve operational issues
  • Ability to be mobile and work remotely as required.
